Phnom Santuk is only 30 km from our home in Baray District, in fact on a clear day it is visible from the back verandah. It is sacred to all Cambodians. There is a legendary figure from the past who stood with one foot on Phnom Santuk, and the other on Phnom Kulen, which would be at least 150 km away. He must have been a big boy! In recent times a concrete road has been built allowing access to the top by motorbike, in the past there were over 800 steps to climb. The temples on Phnom Santuk are beautiful, and being up so high the views over the surrounding plains are stunning, especially when everything is green after rain.
